Bringing Hope to St James’s Hospital: Our Giant Daffodil Day Installation
In March 2025, Giant Flowers Ireland was honoured to partner with St James’s Hospital in Dublin to help raise awareness for Daffodil Day, the Irish Cancer Society’s flagship fundraising campaign.
To mark this important event, we created a spectacular larger-than-life floral installation featuring giant handcrafted daffodils, proudly displayed in the hospital’s main concourse.
Daffodil Day is Ireland’s largest cancer fundraising event and provides vital support to cancer patients and their families throughout the country. As a small Irish creative business, we were delighted to contribute our skills in a way that would help bring visibility, conversation and engagement to such a meaningful cause.
Transforming the Hospital Concourse
Our goal was simple: create something impossible to ignore.
The installation featured oversized handcrafted daffodils standing proudly in the main concourse of St James’s Hospital. Their bright yellow petals and vibrant orange centres immediately captured attention and created a striking focal point for staff, patients and visitors alike.
Hospitals can often be stressful environments for patients and families. Art has a unique ability to create moments of joy, distraction and connection, and we hoped the giant flowers would provide exactly that.
The response exceeded all expectations.
A Social Media Success
According to feedback from the hospital reception team and concourse management, the installation generated an estimated 200 selfies and photographs per day.
Throughout the week, staff, visitors and patients stopped to admire the flowers, take photographs and share them with friends, family and colleagues.
The installation also featured prominently in St James’s Hospital’s internal staff communications, helping to further promote awareness of Daffodil Day and encouraging participation in the fundraising campaign.
By creating a highly visible and shareable feature within the hospital, the installation helped spark conversations around Daffodil Day and the important work of the Irish Cancer Society.
